Description

Lead stearate (CAS 1072-35-1), also sold under the trade name Stabinex NC18, is a lead-based metallic soap used primarily as a heat stabilizer and lubricant in PVC and other polymer processing. Lead distearate functions by neutralizing degradation byproducts at elevated processing temperatures, extending the service life of finished plastic components during industrial manufacturing.

In PVC compounding, it acts as a primary heat stabilizer, preventing discoloration and degradation during extrusion and calendering of cables, pipes, and profiles for construction use. Rubber processors use it as an internal lubricant and processing aid, reducing friction between compound and equipment surfaces during mixing and molding operations in the factory.

In the plastics industry, it also functions as a mold release agent, improving surface finish and cycle times in high-volume production environments for various technical applications. Metalworking and industrial lubricant formulators incorporate it into greases and extreme-pressure formulations where its film-forming characteristics reduce wear under heavy loads.

Lead stearate is supplied as a white powder or fine granules. It is available in technical grade, with product specifications typically defined by lead content, acid value, and melting point. Packaging is offered in bags or drums suited to bulk industrial procurement. This material ensures consistent performance across a wide range of demanding chemical processing requirements.
