Lead stearate

Lead stearate (CAS 1072-35-1), also sold under the trade name Stabinex NC18, is a lead-based metallic soap used primarily as a heat stabilizer and lubricant in PVC and other polymer processing.

Where is Lead stearate used?

• PVC compounding: primary heat stabilizer preventing discoloration and degradation during extrusion and calendering of cables, pipes and profiles
• Rubber processing: internal lubricant and processing aid reducing friction between compound and equipment surfaces
• Plastics: mold release agent improving surface finish and cycle times
• Metalworking and industrial lubricants: film-forming additive in greases and extreme-pressure formulations that reduces wear under heavy loads
• It neutralizes degradation byproducts at elevated processing temperatures, extending the service life of finished plastic components.
