Sodium stearate

Sodium stearate (CAS 822-16-2) is the sodium salt of stearic acid, also known as sodium octadecanoate.

Where is Sodium stearate used?

• Food processing: emulsifier and anti-caking agent in select processed foods
• Personal care and soap manufacturing: primary structuring agent in bar soaps and solid cosmetic sticks
• Cosmetics: creating stable, solid formulations
• Plastics: internal and external lubricant and stabilizer during PVC compounding
• Metalworking and industrial lubrication: base component in dry lubricant formulations and release agent for metal forming
• It improves melt flow and prevents degradation during extrusion.

Good to know: Food-grade material meets FCC specification; cosmetic and pharmaceutical grades meet USP or Ph. Eur. standards.
