Aluminum tristearate
Description
Aluminum tristearate (CAS 637-12-7), also sold as aluminium stearate, is a metallic soap formed from aluminum and stearic acid. It functions as a gelling agent, thickener, and lubricant across multiple industrial sectors.
It is valued primarily for its ability to modify flow behavior in non-aqueous systems and improve surface release in processing applications. In paints and coatings, it thickens solvent-based formulations and prevents pigment settling.
This additive extends shelf stability without the need for complex reformulation. Plastics processors use it as an internal and external lubricant to reduce friction during extrusion and molding, improving throughput and surface finish.
In grease and lubricant manufacturing, it builds gel structure in hydrocarbon-based systems, controlling consistency and thermal resistance. This ensures high performance in demanding industrial environments and mechanical systems.
Personal care formulators incorporate it into stick products, pressed powders, and anhydrous creams. It provides body and improves texture without the need for water-based emulsification, maintaining product integrity.
The material is supplied as a fine white to off-white powder. It is available in technical and industrial grades, with purity and metal content specifications varying by application to meet specific manufacturing needs.
Lubricant and coatings grades are the most commonly stocked varieties for industrial use. Packaging typically ranges from 25 kg bags to bulk quantities depending on the specific requirements of the supplier and the end user.
