Aluminum monostearate

Aluminum monostearate (CAS 7047-84-9), also supplied as Aluminum stearate 300 or dibasic aluminium stearate, is a metallic soap produced from aluminum and stearic acid. It functions primarily as a rheology modifier, lubricant, and gelling agent across a broad range of industrial formulations.

In lubricants and greases, it thickens base oils to produce semi-solid consistencies suited for high-load bearing and metalworking applications. Plastics and polymer processors use it as an internal lubricant and mold release agent.

This material helps to improve throughput and surface finish in extrusion and injection molding processes. In construction sealants and coatings, it modifies flow behavior and improves water repellency of bituminous and solvent-based systems.

Pharmaceutical and cosmetic formulators incorporate it as a suspending and gelling agent in topical ointments, creams, and aerosol systems. It is particularly effective in applications where controlled viscosity and stability are critical requirements.

Aluminum monostearate is supplied as a white to off-white powder or fine granules. It is available in technical and pharmaceutical-grade specifications, with pharmaceutical grades conforming to USP and BP standards where applicable.
