Description

Aluminum distearate (CAS 300-92-5), also known as hydroxyaluminum distearate or by the trade designation Special M, is a metallic soap derived from stearic acid and aluminum. It functions as a rheology modifier, lubricant, and surface treatment agent across a range of industrial formulations. In lubricants and greases, it acts as a thickening agent.

This material builds gel structures that improve consistency and thermal stability in high-performance applications. Plastics processors use it as an internal and external lubricant during compounding. During extrusion, it reduces die buildup and improves mold release. In construction products such as sealants and coatings, it modifies flow behavior to prevent sagging and control viscosity.

Personal care formulators incorporate it into anhydrous systems such as sticks, balms, and color cosmetics. It provides structure and controls texture without adding water to the system. Aluminum distearate is supplied as a fine white powder. It is available in technical grade for industrial lubricant and plastics applications, ensuring high performance in manufacturing.

Cosmetic-grade material is also available, meeting purity requirements for personal care use. Packaging typically ranges from multi-wall bags to bulk quantities suited to large-scale operations.
