Sodium polyitaconate

CAS
26099-89-8

Description

Sodium polyitaconate (CAS 26099-89-8) is the sodium salt form of polyitaconic acid, a biodegradable polyelectrolyte used industrially as a scale inhibitor, dispersant, and chelating agent.

Its ability to sequester hardness ions and prevent mineral deposition makes it a functional alternative to conventional phosphonate-based chemistries in water treatment and formulated products.

In cooling water and boiler systems, it inhibits calcium carbonate, calcium sulfate, and other mineral scale formation on heat transfer surfaces, helping maintain system efficiency.

Detergent and cleaning product formulators use it as a builder and dispersant to prevent soil redeposition and improve wash performance in phosphate-free formulations.

In agriculture, it functions as a dispersant and suspending agent in liquid fertilizer concentrates and agrochemical suspension formulations for improved stability.

Its rheology-modifying behavior also supports use in specialty coating and pigment dispersion applications where controlled viscosity and high performance are required.

Sodium polyitaconate is typically supplied as an aqueous solution, with active content concentrations commonly ranging from 30% to 50% for industrial use.

Technical-grade material is the standard commercial offering, with grades differentiated by molecular weight, which affects scale inhibition performance and dispersancy.
