Sodium polyitaconate

Sodium polyitaconate (CAS 26099-89-8) is the sodium salt form of polyitaconic acid, a biodegradable polyelectrolyte used industrially as a scale inhibitor, dispersant, and chelating agent.

Where is Sodium polyitaconate used?

• Water treatment: sequesters hardness ions and prevents mineral deposition, an alternative to phosphonate chemistries
• Cooling water and boiler systems: inhibits calcium carbonate, calcium sulfate and other mineral scale on heat transfer surfaces
• Detergent and cleaning products: builder and dispersant that prevents soil redeposition in phosphate-free formulations
• Agriculture: dispersant and suspending agent in liquid fertilizer concentrates and agrochemical suspensions
• Specialty coatings and pigment dispersion: rheology modifier for controlled viscosity
• It also functions as a chelating agent.
