Ponceau 6R
Description
Ponceau 6R (CAS 2766-77-0), also known as Acid Red 44 and formerly designated E126, is a synthetic azo dye used to impart red coloration across textile, food, and industrial applications.
Its strong dyeing affinity and vivid red hue make it a recognized colorant in both regulated and industrial supply chains. In textile processing, it is applied to wool, silk, and nylon fabrics using acid dyeing methods.
These methods achieve bright, durable red shades across various fiber types. Leather manufacturers use it in finishing baths where consistent color uptake on protein-based substrates is required for high-quality results.
In printing and packaging, it functions as a colorant in inks where red tones must meet specific hue and fastness targets. Historically supplied under the E126 designation, it has also appeared in food colorant formulations.
Regulatory status for food use varies significantly by market and should be confirmed before procurement. Ponceau 6R is typically available as a red to dark red powder or granule for industrial handling.
It is supplied in technical and dye-grade specifications, with purity levels commonly expressed as dye content percentage. Packaging is generally offered in fiber drums or multi-wall bags suited to bulk procurement.
