Solvent Red 80
Description
Solvent Red 80 (CAS 6358-53-8), also known as Citrus Red 2 and designated E121, is an oil-soluble azo dye used to impart red and orange-red coloration in non-aqueous systems.
It dissolves readily in organic solvents, waxes, and polymers, making it a practical colorant for industrial formulations where water-based dyes are unsuitable for the manufacturing process.
In plastics and polymer processing, this dye is used to mass-color polyolefins, polystyrene, and similar resins during compounding or extrusion to ensure a uniform distribution of color.
Coatings and lacquer manufacturers incorporate it into solvent-borne systems where consistent hue and transparency are required in the final film for high-quality industrial finishes.
The dye is also used in printing inks, particularly gravure and flexographic formulations, to achieve vibrant red tones in packaging and decorative print runs across various industries.
Leather finishing and textile surface treatments represent additional outlets, where it contributes surface color to non-fiber substrates that require specific oil-soluble properties.
This product is supplied as a fine powder or press cake. Technical grade is the standard commercial form, with purity specifications typically confirmed by dye content assay and testing.
Spectrophotometric testing ensures quality control for every batch. Packaging is available in small laboratory quantities through to bulk industrial volumes depending on the specific supplier.
