2-(tert-butylamino)ethyl methacrylate
Description
2-(tert-Butylamino)ethyl methacrylate (CAS 3775-90-4), also known commercially as Ageflex FM-4, is a functional methacrylate monomer carrying a secondary amine group. It is used to introduce amine functionality into polymer backbones, enabling controlled reactivity for adhesion, crosslinking, and surface modification in coating and polymer systems.
In automotive and industrial coatings, it is incorporated into acrylic copolymers to improve adhesion to metal substrates and facilitate crosslinking with epoxy or isocyanate curatives. Adhesive and sealant formulators use it to build amine-functional resins where controlled cure response and substrate bonding are critical performance requirements for industrial use.
In printing inks and packaging coatings, copolymerization with this monomer improves ink adhesion and film cohesion on difficult substrates during the manufacturing process. Plastics compounders and polymer producers also use it as a reactive building block for designing pH-responsive or amine-functional specialty polymers for various applications.
The product is supplied as a liquid monomer, typically with an inhibitor package to maintain stability during storage and transport. It is available in technical grade for industrial use. Bulk and drum quantities are standard supply formats for industrial buyers, with sample quantities available for formulation development and testing in laboratory environments.
