Polyquaternium-11
Description
Polyquaternium-11 (CAS 53633-54-8), also marketed as Gafquat 734 and Gafquat 755, is a cationic conditioning polymer used across personal care and industrial applications. Known by the abbreviation PQ-11, it deposits onto negatively charged surfaces to improve texture and film formation.
Its charge density and film-forming capacity make it a preferred fixative and conditioner in rinse-off and leave-on formulations alike. In hair care, it is a primary ingredient in styling gels, mousses, and sprays, where it delivers hold and reduces flyaways.
This polymer improves combability without stiffness, allowing for better manageability in various hair types. Shampoo and conditioner formulators incorporate it to enhance wet detangling and impart a smooth feel that persists after rinsing.
In textile processing, it functions as a surface modifier that improves fiber softness and antistatic performance during finishing operations. Paper and leather treatments also utilize this chemical as a surface conditioning agent to improve tactile properties.
These industrial applications benefit from the polymer's ability to improve moisture retention in finished goods. Polyquaternium-11 is supplied as an aqueous solution, typically at active concentrations of 20% or 28–30% for manufacturing use.
It is available in cosmetic/personal care grade meeting industry formulation standards. Bulk supply is standard in drums and IBC containers suited to industrial and cosmetic manufacturing volumes, ensuring consistent quality for large-scale production.
