Cetyl acetate
Description
Cetyl acetate (CAS 629-70-9), also known commercially as palmityl acetate, is a fatty acid ester used primarily as an emollient and conditioning agent in personal care and pharmaceutical formulations.
It functions as a skin-feel modifier and carrier, improving texture and spreadability in finished products without leaving heavy residue. In cosmetic formulations, it is incorporated into creams and lotions.
This ingredient is also used in hair conditioners to deliver a smooth, non-greasy skin feel while supporting emulsion stability. It acts as a plasticizer in film-forming systems for various applications.
The compound improves flexibility and adhesion in topical pharmaceutical coatings and transdermal delivery bases. Formulators also use it as a solvent and carrier for active ingredients in lipstick and sunscreen.
It is highly effective in color cosmetic bases where oil-phase compatibility is required. In hair care, it conditions the cuticle and reduces static, making it a functional component in leave-in treatments.
The product is also utilized in styling products to enhance performance. This chemical is supplied as a white to off-white waxy solid or flake, available in cosmetic-grade and pharmaceutical-grade specifications.
These grades meet the purity requirements of personal care and topical drug product manufacturers. Packaging is typically offered in fiber drums or bags suited to industrial procurement volumes for global supply.
