Sepiolite

Sepiolite (CAS 63800-37-3), also known by the food additive designation E562, is a naturally occurring fibrous magnesium silicate clay mineral.

Where is Sepiolite used?

• Building and construction: rheology modifier in mortars, renders and joint compounds, controlling sag resistance and workability
• Agriculture: carrier and flow conditioner for granular pesticides and fertilizers, preventing clumping during storage
• Home care and industrial cleaning: thickener and suspending agent that maintains product stability on shelf
• Rubber compounding: reinforcing filler and processing aid contributing to dimensional stability in extruded and molded profiles
• It functions as an anti-caking agent.

Good to know: Food-grade material is available under the E562 designation for feed and food-contact applications. Surface-modified rheological grades are sold under trade names such as PANGEL.
