Sodium carbomer
Description
Sodium carbomer (CAS 73298-57-4), also known by the E-number E1210, is a pre-neutralized polyacrylic acid polymer used as a rheology modifier and stabilizer across personal care, pharmaceutical, and industrial formulations.
Unlike standard carbomers that require in-process neutralization, the sodium salt form disperses readily in aqueous systems, streamlining manufacturing workflows for formulators and reducing production time.
In personal care, it builds viscosity and suspends actives in gels, lotions, and cleansers without requiring a separate neutralization step. This efficiency makes it a preferred choice for modern cosmetic labs.
Pharmaceutical manufacturers use it as a thickener and binder in topical gels and ophthalmic formulations where consistent rheological performance is critical to product approval and patient safety.
In coatings and adhesive systems, it functions as a thickening and stabilizing agent for water-based dispersions, helping control flow and application properties for industrial-scale manufacturing processes.
It also supports emulsion stability in leave-on and rinse-off cosmetic products where long shelf-life is a procurement requirement. This ensures that the final product remains stable under various conditions.
Sodium carbomer is supplied as a fine white powder. It is available in cosmetic-grade and pharmaceutical-grade specifications, with the latter conforming to Ph. Eur. and USP monograph requirements.
Technical-grade material is also offered for industrial coating and adhesive applications where pharmacopoeial compliance is not required. We provide various packaging options to suit your specific needs.
