Croscarmellose sodium

CAS
74811-65-7

Description

Croscarmellose sodium (CAS 74811-65-7), also known as E468, is a cross-linked polymer of sodium carboxymethyl cellulose used as a superdisintegrant in solid dosage form manufacturing.

It rapidly absorbs water and swells, breaking apart compressed tablets and capsule fills to release the active ingredient. In oral solid dosage manufacturing, it is incorporated into tablet formulations.

Both direct compression and wet granulation methods utilize this material to meet dissolution specifications for immediate-release products. Generic and branded pharmaceutical manufacturers rely on it for rapid disintegration.

It is commonly used in standard tablets, orally disintegrating tablets, and chewable formats. Nutraceutical and dietary supplement producers use it in compressed supplement tablets where fast breakdown is required.

This ensures products meet label claims effectively. It also appears in veterinary tablet formulations where consistent disintegration performance across varying moisture conditions is a procurement requirement.

Croscarmellose sodium is supplied as a white to off-white free-flowing powder. It is available in pharmaceutical-grade specifications including USP/NF, Ph. Eur., and BP.

Particle size variants are offered to suit different granulation processes. FCC-grade material is available for food and nutraceutical applications where compliance with regulatory standards is required.
