Hydroxypropyl cellulose

Hydroxypropyl cellulose (CAS 9004-64-2), abbreviated HPC and listed as E463 in food applications, is a water-soluble cellulose ether. Also known as HPC.

Where is Hydroxypropyl cellulose used?

• Pharmaceutical: binder for tablet wet granulation and film-coating polymer for immediate-release dosage forms
• Food: stabilizer and emulsifier in processed foods, bakery products and dietary supplements
• Personal care: viscosity builder and spreadability improver in gels, creams and hair-fixatives
• Construction: water-retention agent in tile adhesives and cement-based mortars, reducing premature drying during application
• It gives formulators precise control over viscosity and texture.
