Hypromellose acetate succinate (CAS 71138-97-1), abbreviated HPMCAS, is a cellulose-based enteric polymer for pharmaceutical manufacturing.

Where is Hypromellose acetate succinate used?

• Pharmaceuticals: pH-dependent solubilizer and film-former for poorly soluble drugs
• Amorphous solid dispersions: polymer that stabilizes poorly soluble APIs in a supersaturated state to enhance absorption
• Enteric coatings: protective film resisting gastric acid and dissolving at targeted intestinal pH
• Hot-melt extrusion and spray-drying: matrix carrier for oral solid dosage development
• It is also used in controlled-release capsule and tablet systems.

Good to know: Grades LF, MF and HF differ by solubility pH threshold; NF grade is the standard specification for pharmaceutical use.
