Aluminum ammonium sulfate dodecahydrate
Description
Aluminum ammonium sulfate dodecahydrate (CAS 7784-26-1), commonly known as Ammonium Alum, is an inorganic double salt used across water treatment, textile processing, and paper manufacturing. It functions primarily as a coagulant and flocculant, aggregating suspended particles for removal, and as a pH-buffering agent in process streams to ensure stability during chemical reactions.
In municipal and industrial water treatment, it destabilizes colloidal particles and clarifies raw water ahead of filtration. Textile and leather processors use it as a mordant to fix dyes onto fiber substrates. This application improves color fastness and uniformity across various materials. In pulp and paper production, it acts as a sizing precipitant, helping rosin size bind to cellulose fibers to control paper porosity.
Agricultural applications include soil amendment and fertilizer formulations where both aluminum and ammonium ions contribute to pH correction and nutrient delivery for optimized crop growth and soil health. Aluminum ammonium sulfate dodecahydrate is supplied as white crystalline granules or powder. Food-grade material meeting FCC specifications is available for permitted food processing uses.
Technical-grade material is also provided for industrial applications. Bulk quantities are standard for water treatment and industrial buyers, with smaller packaged formats available for specialty or laboratory use.
