Sodium methyl naphthalenesulfonate-formaldehyde copolymer, also known as methyl naphthalene sulfonic acid-formaldehyde condensate sodium salt, is a synthetic anionic dispersant. It is used across construction, agriculture, and industrial processing to reduce water demand.

This chemical improves the flow and workability of complex mixtures without compromising final product integrity. In concrete and cement production, it functions as a water-reducing plasticizer, lowering water-to-cement ratios while maintaining slump.

This is a critical factor for ready-mix and precast operations. Textile and leather processors use CAS 9008-64-4 to improve dye dispersion and leveling, ensuring uniform penetration across fiber and hide substrates.

In agrochemical formulations, it acts as a dispersant and wetting agent in wettable powder and suspension concentrate pesticide products. Paper manufacturing operations apply it to control fiber dispersion during high-speed processing.

It also improves coating rheology. The product is supplied as a brown to tan powder or as an aqueous solution, with solid content typically ranging from 85–95% for powder grades to meet industrial needs.

Technical-grade is the standard commercial specification, with variations in sulfonation degree and molecular weight available to match specific application requirements. Bulk bags and drums are common packaging formats.

IBC containers are also used for industrial supply. This versatile copolymer remains a staple for manufacturers requiring high-performance dispersion and stabilization in demanding chemical environments.
