N,N-bis(3-aminopropyl)methylamine
Description
N,N-bis(3-aminopropyl)methylamine (CAS 105-83-9), also known commercially as methyldipropylenetriamine, is a trifunctional amine used as a reactive building block and curing agent across industrial chemistry. Its three amine groups enable crosslinking, chelation, and corrosion inhibition in demanding formulation environments. In epoxy coatings and adhesives, it acts as a curing agent that builds chemical resistance.
This versatile chemical builds mechanical durability into the cured film. Water treatment programs use it to sequester metal ions and inhibit corrosion in cooling water and oilfield systems. Lubricant and metalworking fluid formulators incorporate it as a corrosion inhibitor that protects ferrous and non-ferrous metal surfaces under high-stress conditions.
In polymer synthesis, it functions as a monomer or chain extender for polyamide and polyurea systems where controlled crosslink density is required for the final product. N,N-bis(3-aminopropyl)methylamine is supplied as a liquid at ambient temperature. Technical grade is the standard commercial offering, with purity levels typically at 98% or higher.
This high purity level is essential for reactive applications. Bulk quantities are available in drums and IBC containers, with packaging suited to industrial procurement volumes.
