Oxybenzone
Description
Oxybenzone (CAS 131-57-7), also supplied under the trade name Uvinul M40 and listed in cosmetic formulations as Benzophenone-3, is a UV-absorbing compound that protects materials from photodegradation. It protects formulations from damage caused by UVB and UVA radiation. It is used across personal care, coatings, and polymer applications where light stability is a primary performance requirement for the end product.
In sunscreen and personal care formulations, Benzophenone-3 is an established active UV filter used in lotions, creams, and lip products to meet regulatory UV protection standards for consumer safety. Coatings and varnish manufacturers incorporate it to prevent yellowing and surface degradation in architectural and industrial finishes exposed to harsh outdoor conditions and direct sunlight.
Polymer processors add oxybenzone to plastics and elastomers during compounding to extend service life in UV-exposed end products such as films, profiles, and various molded components. Adhesive and sealant formulators use it to maintain bond integrity and appearance in products subject to prolonged sunlight exposure. This ensures the long-term durability of the chemical bond.
Oxybenzone is commercially available as a white to off-white crystalline powder. It is supplied in cosmetic-grade and technical-grade specifications to meet the distinct purity and documentation requirements. Standard packaging includes fiber drums and multi-layer bags, with bulk quantities available for industrial procurement. We ensure all batches meet rigorous quality control and safety benchmarks.
