Description

Sulisobenzone (CAS 4065-45-6), also marketed as Benzophenone-4, is a water-soluble UV absorber that protects formulations and substrates from UV-induced degradation across a broad absorption range. Its water solubility distinguishes it from most benzophenone-series UV filters, making it the preferred choice where oil-free or aqueous systems are required for specific industrial applications.

In personal care, it is incorporated into sunscreens, hair care products, and leave-on formulations to provide UV protection in water-based systems where oil-soluble filters are incompatible. Coatings and ink manufacturers use it to prevent photodegradation of pigments and binders in aqueous coatings, paper coatings, and packaging inks, extending print and coating durability under light exposure.

Adhesive and sealant formulators add it to water-borne systems to stabilize polymer matrices against UV-driven yellowing and embrittlement during the lifecycle of the finished product. It also functions as a UV stabilizer in textile treatment liquors, protecting dyed fabrics from light-induced color fading and maintaining the aesthetic integrity of the treated materials.

Sulisobenzone is supplied as a white to off-white crystalline powder. Cosmetic-grade material meeting USP and Ph.Eur. specifications is standard for personal care applications. Technical-grade material is also available for industrial coatings and ink end uses, ensuring high performance and stability across various manufacturing and chemical processing sectors.
