Description

Octocrylene (CAS 6197-30-4) is an oil-soluble UV absorber used across personal care and industrial applications to protect formulations and substrates from UV-induced degradation. It absorbs both UVB and short UVA radiation.

This makes it a standard active in sun protection and a stabilizer in polymer and coating systems. In sunscreen and daily-use cosmetic formulations, it is used as a primary or co-filter UV active.

It is often combined with other organic filters to broaden spectral coverage and improve photostability of labile actives such as avobenzone. Coating and adhesive formulators incorporate it to extend service life.

By preventing UV-triggered yellowing and bond degradation, it protects clear coats, varnishes, and outdoor adhesives. In plastics and polymer processing, it functions as a light stabilizer added during compounding.

This protects transparent or pigmented materials exposed to prolonged outdoor conditions. Its compatibility with a wide range of organic solvents and resins also supports its use in UV-curable systems.

This is particularly useful where photostabilization of the cured matrix is required. The product is supplied as a clear, viscous liquid at ambient temperature for easy handling in various manufacturing processes.

It is available in cosmetic-grade specifications meeting EU Cosmetics Regulation and FDA OTC monograph requirements. Technical-grade material is also available for industrial coating and polymer applications.

Bulk supply is standard in drums and IBC containers to meet the needs of large-scale production. This versatile chemical ensures long-term stability and performance across multiple commercial sectors.
