Etocrylene
Description
Etocrylene (CAS 5232-99-5), also known as UV Absorber-2, is an organic UV absorber that protects substrates from ultraviolet degradation. It functions by absorbing UV radiation in the UVB and UVA range. This chemical prevents photodegradation in finished products and formulations. In personal care, it is incorporated into sunscreen formulations and cosmetic products where UV protection is required for the user.
It is often used in combination with other UV filters to broaden spectral coverage. Plastics and polymer manufacturers use it as a light stabilizer in films, coatings, and molded articles to prevent yellowing. This stabilizer also prevents mechanical degradation caused by UV exposure. In printing and packaging, it is used in UV-curable inks and varnishes to improve photostability and extend the service life of surfaces.
It also appears in adhesives and industrial coatings where long-term resistance to UV-induced breakdown is a requirement. Etocrylene is supplied as a pale yellow to yellow liquid or low-melting solid. The physical state depends on temperature and purity. It is available in cosmetic-grade and technical-grade specifications to meet the requirements of personal care and industrial applications respectively.
Standard packaging includes drums and intermediate bulk containers. Purity is typically confirmed by HPLC to ensure the material meets the necessary performance benchmarks for high-end manufacturing.
