What is Drometrizole?
Drometrizole (CAS 2440-22-4), known as UV-P, is a benzotriazole-class UV absorber that protects organic substrates from photodegradation.
Where is Drometrizole used?
- Plastics and polymer compounding: incorporated into polyolefins, PVC and engineering resins to extend service life in outdoor or UV-exposed end products
- Coatings: for industrial and architectural finishes needing long-term gloss retention and substrate protection
- Adhesives and sealants: added where UV exposure would cause embrittlement
- In personal care it serves as a UV filter in sunscreens and leave-on products.
Good to know: Absorbs UV radiation in the 300–385 nm range, preventing yellowing and color fade; also prevents mechanical degradation in light-exposed materials. Technical grade for industrial polymer and coatings use; cosmetic grade meets high purity standards.
