Diethylhexyl butamido triazone
Description
Diethylhexyl butamido triazone (CAS 154702-15-5), sold under the trade name Uvasorb HEB, is an oil-soluble UVB filter used in sunscreen and photoprotection formulations. It delivers high molar absorptivity in the UVB range.
This characteristic allows formulators to achieve effective sun protection at relatively low use concentrations. In sunscreen products, it is used as a primary UVB-absorbing active for high performance.
It is often combined with UVA filters to achieve broad-spectrum SPF performance. Its oil solubility makes it suitable for anhydrous formulations, emollients, and W/O emulsions where water-soluble filters are not compatible.
Formulators in color cosmetics incorporate it into tinted moisturizers and foundations where daily UV protection is required. This is achieved without compromising the final skin feel of the cosmetic product.
It is also used in hair care products such as leave-on treatments where UV-induced color fade needs to be controlled. This helps prevent protein degradation caused by environmental exposure to the sun.
Diethylhexyl butamido triazone is supplied as a white to off-white powder. It is available in cosmetic-grade specification, the standard for personal care applications, with purity levels typically confirmed by HPLC.
Packaging options commonly include kilogram-scale bags and drum quantities suited to industrial formulation batches. This ensures reliable supply chains for large-scale manufacturing of sun care and beauty products.
