Light stabilizer UV-571
Description
Light Stabilizer UV-571 (CAS 125304-04-3), also marketed as Benzotriazolyl Dodecyl p-Cresol, is a benzotriazole-based UV absorber that protects organic materials from photodegradation caused by UV radiation. Its long dodecyl chain improves compatibility with non-polar substrates and reduces volatility during high-temperature processing. This makes it an ideal choice for demanding industrial manufacturing environments.
In polyolefins, PVC, and engineering plastics, UV-571 is incorporated to extend service life in outdoor applications such as agricultural films, automotive parts, and construction profiles. Coating formulators use it in industrial and automotive topcoats where long-term gloss retention and color stability are required. It provides a robust barrier against the harmful effects of sunlight.
Rubber compounders add it to EPDM and other elastomers used in weatherstripping, roofing membranes, and outdoor sealing profiles. It ensures flexibility and durability under constant environmental exposure. It is also used in pressure-sensitive adhesives and sealants where UV-induced yellowing or embrittlement would compromise bond integrity. This helps maintain the structural performance of the adhesive over time.
UV-571 is supplied as a light yellow to pale amber liquid or low-melting solid, depending on temperature and grade. It is available in technical grade, with purity levels typically at 98% or higher. Purity is confirmed by HPLC to ensure consistent performance. Packaging options generally include drums and IBC containers suited to bulk industrial procurement and large-scale chemical distribution.
