Ecamsule
Description
Ecamsule (CAS 92761-26-7), also known commercially as Mexoryl and by its chemical descriptor Terephthalylidene Dicamphor Sulfonic Acid, is a water-soluble UVA filter used in sun care and photoprotection formulations.
It is one of the few organic UV absorbers approved for use in both cosmetic and pharmaceutical sunscreen products across major regulated markets. Ecamsule is primarily incorporated into broad-spectrum sunscreen formulations.
These formulations include lotions, creams, and sprays where it provides targeted UVA I and UVA II protection that many conventional filters cannot achieve alone. In combination systems, it is paired with UVB filters.
It is often used with octocrylene or avobenzone to meet SPF and UVA protection ratio requirements under EU and international standards. Pharmaceutical-grade sunscreen products rely on ecamsule for its photostable UVA coverage.
This is particularly important for products indicated for photosensitive skin conditions. Its water solubility also makes it suitable for lightweight, aqueous-phase formulations where oil-based UV filters are not preferred.
Ecamsule is supplied as a white to off-white powder. It is available in cosmetic and pharmaceutical grades, with specifications aligned to EU Cosmetics Regulation Annex VI requirements and corresponding standards.
The material meets high purity benchmarks and is suitable for global distribution. Our supply chain ensures that the product adheres to rigorous quality controls for consistency in every batch produced for our clients.
