Pumice
Description
Pumice (CAS 1332-09-8), also known as pumicite in its fine powdered form, is a naturally occurring volcanic mineral sourced and processed for use across abrasive, filtration, and surface treatment applications.
Its controlled porosity and hardness make it a practical functional filler and abrasive agent in both industrial and consumer product manufacturing. In personal care and cleaning formulations, it is widely used.
Pumice powder is incorporated into hand soaps, foot scrubs, and scouring pastes where controlled mechanical exfoliation is required. The textile and denim industry uses pumice stones in garment finishing to achieve effects.
These stones help achieve stonewashed effects and surface distressing on fabric. Construction applications include use as a lightweight aggregate in concrete, plaster, and insulating blocks where reduced density is a target.
In leather processing, pumice is used for buffing and surface preparation to achieve consistent texture before finishing. Pumice is supplied as crushed stone, coarse granules, and milled powder for various uses.
Particle size is the primary specification variable across grades. Standard grades include technical and cosmetic-grade powder, with cosmetic grades subject to tighter particle size and purity controls.
Bulk supply is common for industrial buyers, with finer mesh grades available for personal care and cleaning product formulators. This ensures compatibility with a wide range of manufacturing requirements.
