Diatomite
Description
Diatomite (CAS 61790-53-2), commonly known as diatomaceous earth or DE, is a naturally occurring siliceous sedimentary material mined from fossilized algae deposits. It functions as a filtration aid, absorbent, and mild abrasive across a broad range of industrial processes.
In water treatment and beverage processing, DE is used as a depth filtration medium to clarify liquids including beer, wine, and municipal water supplies. Agricultural applications rely on DE as a grain protectant and soil amendment.
Its unique physical structure disrupts insect exoskeletons without synthetic chemistry. In construction and building materials, it acts as a pozzolanic additive and lightweight filler in insulation products and cement blends.
Home care and industrial cleaning formulations incorporate DE as a mild abrasive and absorbent carrier in powdered cleansers and spill control products. This versatile material is essential for high-performance industrial applications.
Diatomite is supplied as a fine white-to-off-white powder, with calcined and flux-calcined grades available for higher-flow filtration applications. These specialized grades ensure optimal performance in demanding environments.
Food-grade and filter-aid grades meeting FCC and food-contact standards are standard for beverage and edible oil processing. These certifications ensure the material is safe for use in the global food and beverage supply chain.
Technical grades are available for industrial filtration, agriculture, and construction end uses. Our high-purity sourcing ensures consistent particle size distribution and superior absorption properties for all industrial requirements.
