Description

Sodium tungstate (CAS 13472-45-2), also sold as sodium wolframate, is an inorganic tungsten salt used industrially as a corrosion inhibitor and catalyst precursor. It delivers controlled tungsten chemistry in applications where a water-soluble tungsten source is required at scale.

In textile and leather processing, it functions as a flame retardant and weighting agent, applied directly to fabric and hide treatments to meet fire resistance specifications. This ensures high performance in industrial safety applications.

Pharmaceutical and fine chemical manufacturers use it as a catalyst or catalyst precursor in oxidation reactions, particularly in peroxide-based synthesis routes. It provides a reliable chemical pathway for complex organic transformations.

In mining and metallurgy, it serves as a starting material for producing tungsten metal, tungsten carbide, and downstream alloy intermediates. These materials are essential for high-strength industrial tools and components.

Paper manufacturers apply it as a flame retardant additive and to improve the density and opacity of specialty paper grades. This chemical treatment enhances the physical properties and safety profile of the final paper product.

Sodium tungstate is supplied as a white crystalline powder or as the dihydrate form, which is the most commercially prevalent grade. It is highly valued for its solubility and consistent performance in aqueous solutions.

Technical and reagent-grade specifications are standard across the market, with purity levels typically ranging from 99% upward for industrial and laboratory supply. These grades meet the rigorous demands of modern chemical manufacturing.

Bulk quantities are available for industrial procurement, with smaller packaging offered for laboratory and pharmaceutical sourcing. This flexibility allows for seamless integration into both large-scale production and research environments.
