Description

Sodium chromate (CAS 7775-11-3) is an inorganic chromium(VI) salt used industrially as a corrosion inhibitor and oxidizing agent across metal processing, textile, and water treatment sectors.

Disodium chromate is a recognized alternative name buyers may encounter in technical procurement contexts. In metal finishing and mining operations, it functions as a passivation agent applied to steel surfaces.

It is used on non-ferrous surfaces to prevent oxidative degradation in aggressive environments. The textile and leather industries use it as a mordant in dyeing processes, fixing chromium-based dyes to fiber substrates.

This application ensures improved color fastness and durability for various materials. In industrial water treatment systems, particularly cooling towers, it inhibits corrosion of metal infrastructure by forming a protective film.

This film on pipe surfaces protects recirculating water circuits from damage. Paper manufacturing operations also employ it as an oxidizing agent in certain pulp treatment and surface chemistry processes.

The product is supplied as a yellow crystalline powder or anhydrous solid, with the tetrahydrate form also available. Technical grade is the standard commercial offering for most industrial end uses.

Buyers should confirm purity specifications and chromium(VI) content with suppliers. These requirements often vary significantly between industrial and process-specific grades depending on the final application.
