Description

Isocetyl stearate (CAS 25339-09-7) is a branched-chain ester of stearic acid used as an emollient, lubricant, and plasticizer across personal care and industrial formulations. Its branched structure resists crystallization, keeping finished products smooth and spreadable at low temperatures. Formulators source it primarily for skin-feel modification and as a functional lubricating component. In cosmetics, it functions as an emollient and texture enhancer in creams, lotions, lip products, and color cosmetics.

It contributes a dry, non-greasy skin feel without heavy occlusion. Metalworking and industrial lubricant manufacturers incorporate it into cutting fluids and release agents where a non-reactive, film-forming ester is required. In coatings and sealant formulations, it acts as a plasticizer and softener to improve flexibility and substrate adhesion. Adhesive and elastomer compounders also use it to reduce brittleness and improve processing characteristics.

Isocetyl stearate is supplied as a pale yellow to colorless liquid at ambient temperatures. Cosmetic-grade material conforming to standard purity specifications is the most commonly traded form for global distribution. Technical-grade material is also available for industrial applications. It is typically offered in drum and IBC quantities for bulk procurement to meet the needs of large-scale manufacturing facilities.
