Isostearic acid

Isostearic acid (CAS 2724-58-5), also known as isooctadecanoic acid, is a branched-chain C18 fatty acid derived primarily from the dimerization of oleic acid.

Where is Isostearic acid used?

• Lubricants and metalworking fluids: friction modifier and extreme-pressure additive component improving film stability on metal surfaces
• Personal care: emollient and emulsifier base in anhydrous systems such as lipsticks and skin creams
• Hair conditioners: non-greasy skin feel and resistance to solidification
• Coatings and alkyd resins: improves flexibility and adhesion in low-temperature environments
• Adhesives and sealants: plasticizing acid component that modifies rheology and enhances substrate wetting
• Its branched structure prevents crystallization at low temperatures.
