Glyceryl isostearate
Description
Glyceryl isostearate (CAS 66085-00-5), also known as glyceryl monoisostearate, is a monoglyceride ester used primarily as an emulsifier and skin-conditioning agent in cosmetic and industrial formulations.
Its branched fatty acid structure resists crystallization, making it effective in systems where texture stability and spreadability are critical purchasing criteria for manufacturers and formulators.
In personal care, it functions as an emulsifier in anhydrous formulations such as lip products, color cosmetics, and skin balms, where it improves texture and helps bind oil-phase ingredients.
Sunscreen and moisturizer manufacturers use it to stabilize emulsions and enhance the skin feel of finished products. In industrial lubricants and metalworking fluids, it acts as a boundary lubricant.
It also serves as an anti-wear additive in various mechanical applications. Coatings and adhesive formulators incorporate it as a plasticizing emulsifier to improve substrate wetting and film flexibility.
Glyceryl isostearate is supplied as a pale yellow to amber liquid or soft paste, depending on temperature and grade. It is available in cosmetic-grade and technical-grade specifications.
Cosmetic grades typically meet purity requirements aligned with international pharmacopeial standards. Bulk supply is standard in drums or intermediate bulk containers (IBCs) for industrial use.
