Isocyanuric acid
Description
Isocyanuric acid (CAS 27026-93-3) is a triazine-based compound used industrially as a chlorine stabilizer and biocide carrier in water treatment and sanitization systems. It functions by binding free chlorine in solution, slowing photodegradation and extending the effective life of disinfectant residuals.
Procurement teams also recognize it as a precursor platform for chlorinated isocyanurate derivatives used across cleaning and polymer applications. In swimming pool and recreational water treatment, it stabilizes chlorine against UV degradation, reducing chlorine consumption and reapplication frequency.
Trichloroisocyanuric acid (TCCA) and sodium dichloroisocyanurate (NaDCC) — both derived from isocyanuric acid — are the active disinfectants in tablet and granule sanitizer formulations for pools, potable water, and surface disinfection.
In industrial and institutional cleaning products, it serves as a buffering and stabilizing component in chlorine-releasing tablet systems. The plastics industry uses it as a crosslinking agent and UV stabilizer precursor in polymer processing.
This compound is particularly valuable in polyurethane and epoxy formulations. Isocyanuric acid is supplied as a white crystalline powder or granules. Standard commercial grades include technical grade and industrial grade, with purity levels typically at 98–99%+.
Bulk supply is available in bags or supersacks, with packaging options suited to chemical blending and formulation operations. This ensures efficient handling for large-scale industrial applications and specialized chemical manufacturing processes.
