Description

Bis(dimethylaminoethyl) ether (CAS 3033-62-3), also known as BDMAEE, is a tertiary amine catalyst used primarily in polyurethane foam production. Commercially recognized under trade names NIAX Catalyst A1 and NIAX A99, it accelerates the urethane and blowing reactions.

These reactions govern foam rise and cell structure. Procurement teams source it as a high-activity, low-odor alternative to standard amine catalysts in flexible and rigid foam systems. In flexible slabstock and molded polyurethane foam, it strongly promotes the water-isocyanate blowing reaction.

This allows formulators to reduce total catalyst loading. Rigid foam insulation panels and spray foam systems use it to balance reactivity profiles and improve dimensional stability in the cured product. Adhesive and sealant formulations incorporate it as a cure accelerator.

Fast gelation at low dosage is required in these applications. It also sees use in elastomer casting systems where controlled open time and surface cure are critical processing parameters. Bis(dimethylaminoethyl) ether is supplied as a clear liquid, typically in drum and IBC quantities.

These volumes are suited to industrial polyurethane production. Technical grade is the standard commercial specification, with purity levels commonly at 98% or above. Some suppliers offer pre-diluted or blended catalyst formulations targeting specific foam applications.
