Laureth-5

Laureth-5 (CAS 3055-95-6) is a nonionic ethoxylated fatty alcohol surfactant. Also marketed as Polyoxyethylene (5) Lauryl Ether and Pentaoxyethylene Monododecyl Ether.

Where is Laureth-5 used?

• Personal care: emulsifier and stabilizer for oil-in-water systems in creams, lotions and cleansing products
• Textile processing: scouring and wetting agent that removes oils, waxes and sizing agents from fiber substrates
• Leather processing: degreasing baths for fat liquor removal without damaging hide structure
• Paper manufacturing: dispersant and process aid in pulp treatment and coating formulations
• It functions as an emulsifier, solubilizer and cleaning agent where controlled hydrophilic-lipophilic balance is required.
