Butyltin oxide
Description
Butyltin oxide (CAS 51590-67-1), also known as Monobutyltin oxide and commercially as Tegokat 256, is an organotin compound used as a catalyst and functional additive across polymer and industrial coating systems.
It drives esterification, transesterification, and condensation reactions where precise reaction control and thermal stability are required. In plastics and polymer processing, it catalyzes the production of polyesters and polyurethanes.
This material enables consistent molecular weight distribution in industrial-scale synthesis. PVC stabilization systems use it as a precursor to produce organotin heat stabilizers that protect against thermal degradation during extrusion.
Building and construction applications include its use in curing silicone sealants and coatings. It accelerates crosslinking without compromising adhesion to substrates in various architectural and industrial environments.
Textile and leather finishing operations employ it in flame-retardant treatments and surface coatings. These applications require durable chemical bonding to fiber or hide substrates for long-term performance and stability.
Butyltin oxide is supplied as a white to off-white powder. It is available in technical grade, with purity specifications typically ranging from 95% to 98%+ depending on the intended industrial application.
Packaging options generally follow standard industrial formats, including fiber drums and multi-wall bags suited for bulk procurement. This ensures safe handling and storage for large-scale chemical manufacturing facilities.
