Tributyltin oxide
Description
Tributyltin oxide (CAS 56-35-9), commercially known as TBTO or Butinox, is an organotin biocide used across industrial preservation applications. It functions as a broad-spectrum antimicrobial agent.
This chemical is highly effective at controlling fungi, bacteria, and marine fouling organisms in demanding environments. In textile and leather processing, it is applied as an antifungal treatment.
The treatment helps to prevent mold and mildew degradation during storage and transit. Pulp and paper manufacturing uses it as a slimicide to inhibit microbial growth in process water and on finished materials.
In building and construction, it serves as a wood preservative, protecting structural timber and joinery against fungal decay and insect attack. This ensures the longevity of structural components.
Marine and industrial coatings have historically incorporated this compound as an antifouling agent. It is used to prevent biofouling on submerged surfaces and various types of industrial equipment.
The product is supplied as a liquid, typically as a clear to pale yellow oily fluid. It is available in technical grade, with concentration specifications commonly expressed as percentage active ingredient.
Packaging ranges from drums to intermediate bulk containers. Supply quantities are suited to industrial-scale formulation and treatment operations for global manufacturing requirements.
