Acrylic acid-hydroxypropyl acrylate copolymer (CAS 55719-33-0), also referenced commercially as AA/HPA, is a water-soluble anionic polymer used across industrial water management and process chemistry.

It functions as a scale inhibitor, dispersant, and corrosion control agent in systems handling hard water, mineral slurries, and process fluids. In oilfield and industrial water treatment, it inhibits calcium carbonate.

It also prevents calcium sulfate and other mineral scale deposits in cooling towers, boilers, and injection water systems. Textile and paper processing operations use it to disperse pigments and control rheology.

These applications in coating formulations improve uniformity and reduce equipment fouling. Mining and mineral processing applications rely on it as a flocculant aid to accelerate solid-liquid separation.

This is particularly effective in tailings and ore slurry circuits. It also functions as a threshold inhibitor in low-dose antiscalant programs where conventional precipitation-based treatments are impractical.

Acrylic acid-hydroxypropyl acrylate copolymer is supplied as an aqueous solution, typically at concentrations of 40–50% active content. Technical grade is the standard commercial offering.
