Malachite green

Malachite green (CAS 569-64-2), also sold as Basic Green 4 and Aniline Green, is a synthetic triarylmethane dye used in textile dyeing, biological staining and industrial processes.

Where is Malachite green used?

• Textile and leather: dyes cotton, silk, wool and leather directly without a mordant
• Biological and diagnostic laboratories: staining agent for spores, parasites and microorganisms in microscopy
• Paper and printing: colorant for specialty papers and ink formulations
• In process water it has historically served as an antifungal and antiparasitic agent.

Good to know: Regulatory status varies significantly by region and application. Not to be confused with other triarylmethane dyes.
