Description

Dibutyltin dilaurate (CAS 77-58-7), commonly abbreviated as DBTL and sold under trade names including Davainex and Tinostat, is an organotin compound used industrially as a catalyst and stabilizer. It accelerates curing and crosslinking reactions in polymer systems while also providing thermal and oxidative stabilization during processing. In polyurethane manufacturing, DBTL catalyzes the isocyanate-hydroxyl reaction.

This process controls foam rise and gel times in flexible and rigid foam production. Silicone sealant and RTV formulations rely on it to achieve consistent cure rates at room temperature. This makes it a standard catalyst choice for construction and automotive sealants. PVC compounders use it as a heat stabilizer to prevent degradation during extrusion and calendering of flexible profiles.

It is also utilized for films and wire coatings. In lubricant and metalworking fluid formulations, it functions as an antioxidant additive to extend fluid service life under high-temperature operating conditions. Dibutyltin dilaurate is supplied as a pale yellow to amber liquid. Technical grade is the standard commercial form, with purity typically specified at 95% or higher for industrial use.

It is available in drum and IBC quantities, with specifications aligned to industrial polymer and coatings applications rather than food or pharmaceutical use cases.
