Description

Acrylamide (CAS 79-06-1), also abbreviated as AMD, is a reactive monomer used as the primary building block in the synthesis of polyacrylamide and its copolymers. It enables the production of water-soluble and cross-linked polymer systems.

These systems function as flocculants, thickeners, and retention aids across multiple process industries. In water treatment and mining, polyacrylamide derived from acrylamide acts as a flocculant to separate suspended solids.

This process is essential for cleaning process water and effluent streams. Oil and gas producers use acrylamide-based polymers in enhanced oil recovery formulations and drilling fluid rheology modification for better efficiency.

Pulp and paper manufacturers incorporate polyacrylamide as a retention and drainage aid. This improves fiber recovery and sheet formation during the manufacturing process to ensure high-quality output for industrial clients.

In textile and leather processing, acrylamide copolymers function as sizing agents and surface modifiers. These chemicals help to control coating adhesion and substrate penetration during the finishing stages of production.

Acrylamide is supplied primarily as an aqueous solution, with 50% concentration being the most common commercial form. This format is ideal for polymer synthesis applications requiring high reactivity and easy handling.

Solid acrylamide in crystalline or granular form is available for applications requiring low-moisture handling or specific dosing precision. Technical grade is the standard specification for industrial polymerization use.
