Turpentine oil
Description
Turpentine oil (CAS 8006-64-2), also sold as spirit of turpentine or wood turpentine, is a pine-derived solvent distilled from resinous wood or gum exudates. It functions as a solvent and diluent across coatings, adhesives, and rubber processing industries. Its solvency profile and compatibility with natural resins make it a practical alternative to petroleum-based solvents. In architectural and industrial coatings, it thins oil-based paints, varnishes, and alkyd formulations.
This improves brush application and flow without compromising film integrity. Adhesive and sealant manufacturers use it as a carrier solvent in natural rubber-based contact adhesives and resin-modified formulations. In the rubber and tire industry, it supports compounding processes where pine-derived solvents are specified for compatibility with natural rubber. Printing ink producers incorporate it into oil-based ink systems.
This allows manufacturers to adjust viscosity and drying behavior on press. The product is supplied as a clear to pale yellow liquid in drum and IBC quantities to meet various industrial requirements. Standard commercial grades include gum turpentine and wood turpentine, with specifications varying by distillation source and regional market requirements. It is recognized under FEMA 3089 for flavoring applications.
While industrial-grade material is the primary commercial form, the product maintains high consistency. Our supply chain ensures that all batches meet the necessary technical specifications for global distribution.
