Sulfonated castor oil
Description
Sulfonated castor oil (CAS 101316-48-7), also known as Turkey Red Oil or SN 80, is produced by treating castor oil with sulfuric acid to create a self-emulsifying, water-dispersible oil.
It functions as an anionic surfactant, wetting agent, and emulsifier across a broad range of industrial and personal care applications. In textile processing, it improves dye penetration and fiber lubrication.
This material is essential during scouring, dyeing, and finishing operations. Leather manufacturers use it as a fat-liquoring agent to soften hides and improve flexibility in the tanning process.
In personal care formulations, it acts as an emulsifier and skin-conditioning agent in bath oils, hair preparations, and cream-based products. It provides excellent stability in various aqueous systems.
Agricultural formulations rely on it as a dispersing and wetting agent to improve the spreadability and uptake of pesticide and herbicide concentrates. It ensures uniform distribution of active ingredients.
Sulfonated castor oil is supplied as a viscous amber liquid, typically standardized by active matter content. It is commonly available at 75% and higher concentrations for diverse industrial needs.
Technical grade is the standard offering for industrial textile and leather applications. Cosmetic-grade material is also available for personal care use to meet specific formulation requirements.
Drum and IBC packaging are the typical supply formats for bulk procurement. This ensures safe handling and efficient logistics for large-scale manufacturing and chemical distribution operations.
