Description

2,2-Dibromo-3-nitrilopropionamide (CAS 10222-01-2), commercially known as DBNPA, is a fast-acting, broad-spectrum biocide used across industrial water systems, process fluids, and preservation applications. Its rapid kill rate and hydrolytic degradability make it a preferred active ingredient where residue minimization is a sourcing priority. In industrial water treatment, it controls microbial growth in cooling towers.

It is also utilized in reverse osmosis systems and process water circuits where biological fouling reduces operational efficiency. Pulp and paper manufacturers use it to suppress slime-forming bacteria and fungi. This application in white water systems protects paper machine runnability and product quality. Oil and gas operators apply the chemical to injection water and produced water systems to inhibit sulfate-reducing bacteria.

These bacteria are responsible for souring and pipeline corrosion. In metalworking and lubricant formulations, it functions as a preservation biocide in cutting fluids and emulsions to extend fluid service life. The product is supplied as a white to off-white crystalline powder and in liquid concentrate formulations at varying active concentrations. Technical grade is the standard for industrial applications.

Product specifications are typically aligned to active content and halogen purity requirements. Packaging ranges from small drums to bulk quantities depending on concentration and application format.
