Melamine
Description
Melamine (CAS 108-78-1) is a nitrogen-rich triazine compound used primarily as a reactive monomer in the production of thermosetting resins and as a flame retardant additive across multiple industrial sectors.
Cyanuric triamide is an alternative designation occasionally encountered in technical literature, though the market universally trades under the melamine name. Its high nitrogen content makes it commercially valuable.
This chemical is essential for resin crosslinking and for suppressing combustion in polymer systems. The dominant use is in melamine-formaldehyde (MF) resin production, where it reacts with formaldehyde to form durable thermosets.
These resins are used in laminates, surface coatings, and wood-based panel adhesives. In coatings and adhesives, MF resins provide hard, scratch-resistant finishes for furniture, flooring, and automotive topcoats.
Textile and paper processors use melamine-based resins to impart wet strength, crease resistance, and dimensional stability to finished goods. It is a versatile component for high-performance industrial manufacturing.
As a flame retardant, melamine is compounded into polyurethane foams, epoxy systems, and engineering plastics where halogen-free fire performance is required. This ensures safety compliance in various construction materials.
Melamine is supplied as a white crystalline powder in bulk bags, supersacks, and 25 kg bags. Technical grade is the standard commercial form, with purity levels typically at 99.8% or higher for industrial use.
Specifications are assessed against established industrial standards depending on the end-use application. Our supply chain ensures consistent quality and reliable delivery for large-scale chemical manufacturing operations.
