Description

Distearyl thiodipropionate (CAS 115863-90-6), also designated E390, is a thioester-based secondary antioxidant used to protect polymers, lubricants, and fatty materials from oxidative degradation.

It functions by decomposing hydroperoxides before they can initiate chain-breaking reactions, extending the service life of finished products. In plastics and polymer processing, it is compounded alongside primary antioxidants.

When used with hindered phenolics, it provides synergistic long-term thermal stabilization in polyolefins, PVC, and engineering resins. Lubricant formulators incorporate it to retard oxidative thickening and deposit formation.

This additive is essential for industrial oils and greases exposed to elevated operating temperatures. In food-contact and packaging applications, E390 approval supports its use as an antioxidant in fats, oils, and wax coatings.

Regulatory compliance is a key sourcing requirement for these applications. Personal care manufacturers use it to stabilize emollient-rich formulations and wax-based products against rancidity during shelf life.

Distearyl thiodipropionate is supplied as a white to off-white powder or flake. Food-grade material conforming to E390 specifications is available for regulated applications, ensuring high purity and safety.

Technical-grade product is also offered for polymer and industrial use where specific food standards are not required. Packaging typically ranges from 25 kg bags to bulk quantities depending on the specific grade.
