Description

Ammonium heptamolybdate tetrahydrate (CAS 12054-85-2), commonly abbreviated as AHM and also marketed as ammonium molybdate tetrahydrate, is a water-soluble molybdenum salt used as a primary source of molybdenum across industrial, agricultural, and analytical applications. It delivers concentrated molybdenum content in a stable, handleable crystalline form suited to both large-scale manufacturing and precision formulation. In water treatment and industrial cooling systems, AHM functions as a corrosion inhibitor.

It forms a protective oxide layer on metal surfaces to reduce pipe and equipment degradation. Agricultural formulators use it as a molybdenum micronutrient source in fertilizers and foliar sprays, where molybdenum deficiency directly limits crop yield. In industrial cleaning and surface treatment, it is incorporated into passivation and anti-corrosion formulations for metal processing lines. Pharmaceutical and laboratory applications include its use as a reagent in analytical chemistry.

It is particularly effective in phosphate and silicate detection assays. Ammonium heptamolybdate tetrahydrate is supplied as white to slightly greenish crystalline powder or granules, ensuring ease of use in various manufacturing environments. Technical and reagent grades are the most commonly available, with purity levels ranging from industrial-grade to ACS and analytical-grade specifications. Bulk quantities are standard for industrial buyers.

Smaller packaging is also available for laboratory and formulation use. This versatility makes it a staple chemical for diverse sectors ranging from heavy industry to specialized scientific research and agricultural development.
