Lithium molybdate
Description
Lithium molybdate (CAS 13568-40-6) is an inorganic salt used industrially as a corrosion inhibitor, protecting metal surfaces in aqueous and high-temperature environments. It functions by forming a passive protective layer on metal substrates, reducing oxidative degradation in process systems. In water treatment, it is dosed into closed-loop cooling and heating circuits.
This helps to inhibit corrosion of ferrous and non-ferrous metals, extending system service life and reducing maintenance costs. Metalworking and lubricant formulators incorporate it into cutting fluids. It is used in metal-working concentrates where corrosion protection of tooling and workpiece surfaces is required. It is also evaluated as a component in high-performance grease and lubricant formulations.
Molybdate-based inhibition offers performance at elevated temperatures. Industrial coating and surface treatment processes use molybdate salts as non-chromate corrosion inhibitor alternatives. This supports compliance with restrictions on hexavalent chromium compounds. The product is supplied as a white crystalline powder. Technical and high-purity grades are available for industrial use.
These grades meet the requirements of industrial formulation and specialty chemical applications. Packaging is typically offered in multi-kilogram bags or drums for various needs. Bulk quantities are available for large-scale industrial procurement. This ensures a steady supply for manufacturers requiring consistent chemical quality and performance in their processes.
